Dealing with the Occasional False Positive

|

Sometimes, users have reported that certain software programs will allow for Notes to be searched but will not display the results as expected. This is apparent with older file types and is due to Copernic’s index of metadata. To give an example of how this looks, we created some test files in frequently used Microsoft products (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Results are outlined below. Our test files are aptly named some variation of “Test.” When executing a search for that file name, we see the following:

Clicking on each file will display the content but not the note in the Preview pane, as demonstrated below:

Clicking “Open” will open the document.

Now, let’s do a search for a word from our notes and look at the results:

Our Excel document is not found in this search. However, both the Word and PowerPoint are returned. Both have different displays. Our Word document locates and displays the Note in the Preview pane:

Once again, clicking “Open” will open the entire document and the Comment will be apparent as expected.

Our PowerPoint experience is a bit different. The search returns the document, but the Note is not visible in the Preview Pane:

However, when selecting Open, the document will open, and the note is visible:
